The class will discuss the art of cinematography, from lighting to lenses, digital vs. film, and the relationships between director and DP and between DP and crew.

The class will explore three components of sound in film: capturing sound on set, post-production sound (foley/effects, dubbing, general sound design), and scoring.

The class will address making historical documentaries from multiple perspectives, including conducting the research, finding archival footage and images, securing rights, and using re-creations.
